One of the first projects to tackle after the spring deep freeze has passed is to clean your gutters and downspouts. Leaves from the fall may have clogged gutters, or snow and ice may have damaged areas of your gutters, reducing the ability for the water to flow passively down to the downspout and away from your foundation.
Heavy spring rains are on the way, and having good working gutters and downspouts can effectively move this water away from your home and will help to keep it from entering the home through any porous areas of your foundation. Congruently, it is also a good idea to check your sump pump in your basement (if applicable) to make sure that it is also doing its job to get water up and away from your basement and foundation area, and out and away from your home.
