It's hard to believe, but fall is at our doorstep. Get ready with some of these quick to-do's!
Get your Furnace Serviced Now!
Typically, when furnaces fail, it tends to be on the coldest days here in Maine, and for some reason always at night or on a weekend! August is a great time to have these units serviced, an annual tune up and inspection can help save time and money and ensure proper firing when the units are turned on and expected to work!! Call the pro’s for this one!
Clean and store summer gear
Our Maine beach season is nearing the end so take the time to clean out the buckets, shovels and boogie boards so they’re fresh and clean for next year. Toss out cracked or broken toys, and shop end-of-season sales to replace items if needed.
Tidy up the garden
Cut back spent flowers and vegetable plants that are no longer producing or look tired. Forgo that last handful of beans or zucchini and clear out the bed so you can grow varieties that have short growing seasons and thrive in cool weather. Depending on where you live, you may be able to plant seeds or transplant nursery seedlings in time for fall harvests of leafy greens such as Swiss chard and kale, peas or string beans (bush beans usually mature earlier than pole beans) and more. Check with your local nursery because options vary considerably depending on latitude and climate.
Back to School Season!
Consider what would make this fall run more smoothly for your family: a few extra hooks in the entryway to handle coats and bags? A better workspace or study area? If papers are a constant problem, take the time now to set up a simple filing system and an inbox for each family member.
Set up a shared family calendar.
Keeping the family’s activities straight is a job in and of itself! Create one calendar, whether its DG’s Google calendar, or a large wall calendar to keep track of school, sports and other activities. Update on a weekly (or daily if you’re that good)!!
